Polly..Polly..

so just a funny story for everyone about our dog polly...

well first let me give you a little background...
TC rescued polly in 2006 from a greyhound rescue....

So needless to say..polly has been the #1 woman in his life up until this point...
And when I would come visit she would always look at my suitcase...sigh and walk off i kid you not..

So when I moved here I was determined to make polly like me...
So while I was off I took her for long walks, took her to the park, and gave her several bones...
And it paid off I was in...polly was a fan.

Well one day when I came home I thought I saw polly getting off the couch..so I told TC..and he said oh that is why you turn the couch cushions like so..and she wont get up on the couch because she wont lay on the pillows...
So I did that...
Well as you can see TC's idea totally worked..haha
This is a pic of Polly caught in the act.

I think she thought...wow..how nice of them..they laid out the cushions on the couch for me for extra support..I have such nice parents...

My Husband Lied to me....

yes i know you are all thinking...what did he do???

Well he told me...yeah move to sunny CA..where it never rains...always warm and never ever snows.

Well let me just give you all a recap of the weather the past 2 weeks..
I have either driven to work or home from work 4 times....
And people in CA can not drive in the rain..I want to think that it is because rain is like a foreign idea to them because they are not used to it...however that is not hard to believe because out of 10 days of driving to work..it has rained 4....

This weekend we were walking out of the gym and what is it doing...oh just hailing...

Then when we were at the food truck festival um it started to snow...yep snow...in southern California..

Now let me ask you all does that sound like sunny and 70 weather???

TC said we have never had weather like this in the 4 years I have lived here..this is crazy..
Well I told him I am really glad that when I moved here that we could break all kind of records for rain...snow...record low temps...great...love it.

So the moral to my story..you cant outrun the cold..rainy..snowy weather...
Don't try..it wont happen...
Look at me I moved 2500 miles

Be on the lookout for my post this week I will update everyone on the food truck festival and also a very funny story about our dog polly!!

I also want to wish m good friend Kim K...a very happy baby shower today...
I am so sorry I could not be there but know I was thinking about you and missing all my friends today...

Hope everyone has a wonderful week and is excited about the beginning of March
( I know I am just about 1 month until I will be in KY)

Oh one more favor from all my friends and family....
Please keep my sister in your thoughts....she got some not good news from the doctor...and I just would appreciate every sending her warm and positive thoughts and prayers...
She has pretty much amazed me...she is a very strong woman and awesome mom..
So here is to awesome moms and moms -to-be!!

West Side

So on Saturday night...in the rain we ventured out to West Hollywood to go eat in Thai town and then out to an electronic music concert.

First of all rain does not make for good conditions in CA....
People are crazy here when it rains...they either go 5 mph or they go like 95 and act like it is 70 and sunny outside and are oblivious to "the rain"

We ate at Torung in Thai Town....it was my first experience with Thai food and I was a little (or alot nervous) since everyone knows that I might be a little on the picky side when it comes to food..
You can see the pics above of our table of food....
There were 3-4 dishes I really enjoyed - my favorite one being the soup..it was chicken in a coconut milk base...and i added in some white rice..it was pretty yummy..i think i had 3 servings.
We also ordered s shrimp one...i am not sure what all was in that one..it looked like they cleaned out the fridge and put everything they had not used for the week in it..needless to say I did not try that one. Another dish I like was chicken kabobs with a peanut sauce and then a chicken dish with noodles, brussel sprouts...and not sure what else (sometimes it is just better not to ask)...so is everyone seeing a trend...I LOVE CHICKEN...

Now on to our next adventure- Circus...that is the name of the club we went out to...
It was really cool to get to meet all the people I have heard TC talk about for over a year...
The club was huge and pretty awesome...we heard 2 different DJ's...
This club is open to 4am..but I am just too old to party like a rockstar anymore...
Some interesting things at the club...
1.) some people seriously can not look at them self in the mirror before the leave...if they did there is no way they would leave home dressed the way they dress
2.) see the pic of the hot dog..this is because the club had a concession stand..
can you believe it a concession stand inside the club

So after enjoying the people watching and hearing some good tunes we headed out.

Well I know what you are thinking..this is the end to our night out on the town..oh i wish so..but no
traffic was awful..awful..yes at midnight..i guess people have nothing better to do here than to drive around and cause huge amounts of traffic jams. So TC being the patient man he is with traffic decided we should take some back streets to avoid the traffic and get to the freeway...
So i was like yeah sure sounds like a great idea...there we were..driving around town in his Chevy Malibu chatting about the night events...when all of a sudden...I joke you not this car stops in the middle of the road..and these 2 cops pop out like a jack in the box of an unmarked police car...They left there doors wide open...and all of a sudden we look over and see 3-4 African Americans with there hands up assuming the position...another guy was in a Lincoln town car and they were yelling at him to get out of the car..
Now this all happened within 5 feet of us..and in the short time frame of 10 seconds..so tc tries to throw it in reverse...but we were stuck..he was like should we duck..and in my head i am thinking.."really tc...what about me looks like i would know what to do in a gang shoot out" I am thinking..he must have temporarily forgotten where I was raised...
I mean this is something that only happens in cops.. you know when you are sitting at home in the comfort of your own home singing along to the bad boys theme song

Finally we were able to speed off around the car and get the heck out of there...the whole time I am thinking..wonder if they would get mad if I took some pictures for my blog...
Several things were going thru my mind...if they did yell at me for taking the pics I could totally pull of .."I am a tourist..sorry officer"- I do have the accent to go with it.
After some quick deliberation I decided sticking a camera out the window might not be in my best interest and I refrained...but man i could have gotten some good up close action shots for my viewers...
So that was the conclusion to my evening...

Once we got on the freeway..I looked at TC and said..."Well I think it is safe to say I am not in Harrodsburg anymore!"

Random Acts of Kindness

In the car today on the way home from the gym with my husband...he simply asked.."how are you??" I replied okay and thinking positive...it is nearing my one month mark of embarking on this new journey.

So what has made this all bearable..i thought quietly in my head...
Random acts of kindness
I reported last week that I was so grateful that all my friends and family had taken the time to call and wish me happy first week of work.
That it is the small things in life that make all the really hard things bearable...
Well I continued to be amazed by my friends all week long...
They continued to call..email...text..and also send me packages in the mail..

One of my friends sent a text reminding me that "home is where the heart is..right now I just have 2!!"

One of my friends "betsy" just sent me the smallest thing a package of Reese eggs...in the mail but by the look on my face and the warm and fuzzy feelings I got in my heart you would have thought someone sent me keys to a new mini cooper (off white with a black racing stripe of course..haha can you tell this is my dream car??)

Then my niece sent TC and I a painted V-day picture..and I must say it is gorgeous..and whenever I am having a "moment" I simply think of her sitting there painting that and I am sure telling a big story.

So this is just a continuation of my post earlier in the week that i am just amazed at what wonderful friends and family I have...how do you begin to tell them they mean everything and that there "random" acts of kindness really mean the world to you.
Well I am not sure how I will ever be able to tell them..but I will make sure I show them..and that there is no question that they are appreciated and that I will always be there for them they way they have and continue to be there for me..
Because i am truly humbled....

More to come later this week on my adventures in West Hollywood...you wont want to miss this!!

Malibu- 02/12/11

Hello All:

I have been promising to give a recap of our day we spent in Malibu..so here goes

We took a drive down PCH to get to our first destination

Sostomo Trail- It was so beautiful...i am attaching pics.

We went for a wonderful and relaxing hike..

Then on to our next adventure- FOOD..we were starving.

We went to this restaurant TC had been to before called moonshadows- he loves the bloody mary's at this restaurant

www.moonshadowsmalibu.com/new/- check out the website so you can see the pics. It was amazing...view and food

We set outside and it was gorgeous overlooking the ocean....the only problem was the seagulls kept trying to steal our food..those darn birds had no fear!

So then after eating and relaxing in the blue lounge for a bit we were back out to explore. Our next stop was the getty villa located in malibu. It was amazing...the detail ..the vision Mr. Paul Getty had....and all of this just to house his art collection

The museum is dedicated to the history of the ancient greeks, romans, and etruria (these are people who were located in a particular region of Central Italy- I had no idea either)

This villa was actually closed for almost 10 years to renovate and while this one was closed another Getty Museum was opened in LA.

I am also attaching pics of the Getty Villa.

So that was our day in Malibu...needless to say I fell asleep in the car on the way home..I know big shocker..and we both went to bed early!!

For those of you who don't know...TC is a huge fan of Electronic Music so this weekend we will be headed to an electronic music concert. It is one of his friends birthday- Koo. So we will all go out to eat( a thai place which makes me nervous) and then on to the club to dance!

Also another wonderful thing that is happening- AT&T U-verse is coming to the house on Saturday to install cable upstairs so I can watch all my girlie shows and not have to subject tc to what he thinks is cruel and unusual punishment...sunday I might not even want to get out of bed - I have missed me some Lifetime and out here in CA...I have Lifetime Movie Network...lord help us all..could be dangerous!

To all my friends and family..I love you all and have a wonderful weekend

hugs and kisses

Valencia- not where my roots are but where I am learning to grow

Well...this is going to be a post to introduce you to my new town.
"Valencia is an affluent planned community located in the City of Santa Clarita, California and Los Angeles County, California, U.S."

So here are some fun facts:
In 2008 population-48,456
Santa Clarita is ranked one of the top 100 places to live by money magazine

Valencia also has an extensive system of paved pathways with grade separations over and under the boulevards. The pathways are called paseos. These paseos connect the entire community together making it possible to travel around Valencia without having to cross streets at grade.

Valencia is very cool in that the residential areas are separated into villages and they each contain their own feel..their own personality. The villages include things like shopping, schools, churches (much like how the squares in my beloved savannah was designed). So maybe can we say Valencia is the savannah of the west??

Also located within running distance for me...is the hot tourist spot..Magic Mountain.
I have actually been here - we went for TC's birthday in Nov. with some friends...and oh my gosh.
It was freezing..yes it does get cold here in CA...we were riding roller coasters with winter jackets and gloves on...far cry from Kentucky Kingdom or Kings Island on a hott summer day.

So this is just a little bit of info on my new city..but Southwest Spirit Magazine in October of 2010 did a wonderful article on Santa Clarita...I am attaching the link. Please check it out!
http://www.spiritmag.com/city_profiles/article/meet_santa_clarita/

Okay now for some pics. The picture above is the entrance into our "village"- Westridge
There is also another picture of our area and then...a picture of my new pad!!

And as many of you know the newlyweds first big decisions were decorating....
So you can see above what we ended up going with for the first room...after many many "what do you think about this bedspread?"...."yes tc I totally think those flowers look manly.."
We ended up with a black bedspread- baby blue and zebra print pillows. Which my mom made for us before I left...yes...you read that right..she made all of them and they look awesome. My mom made my curtains in my last house so it was nice to bring a little something of her with me to CA. Everytime I look at our cool pillows- brings a smile to my face, because she put alot of hard work into these pillows for me!!

So TC and I decided since we live in CA..we are going with the Trendy LA decorating so stay tuned as we begin working on the other rooms in the house.

Well peace out..I need to go to bed since I basically have to get up at 3am so I can beat all these crazy people on the freeways out here!

Miss you all

First day of work

Hello All:
Well it is my first day of work and pretty good so far. I left the house at 5:45am...and was at work by 6:35...So tomorrow I will leave 5 minutes earlier and I think it will be just perfect. Now going home today could be a totally different story.

On my way in to work this morning I pondered several things...How people live totally different lifestyles all across the county. Here just 3 weeks ago I was taking the good ol' 127 by-pass to work...traffic..i think not. The biggest problem was if you got stopped by all the stoplights on the by-pass. Now to go to work I have to hit 2 major freeways in CA....and if i leave 5-10 minutes later than what I should that could cost me 30-45 minutes in traffic. A far cry from the by-pass.

So I am writing to let each one of you know I successfully made it to work today and also to say thank you.

Some people say you don't know what you had til its gone...
Well I realize what I have....I have a wonderful group of friends and family...who I know miss me very much but are so supportive of this new venture in life. I cant begin to tell you how many phone calls, text messages, emails, facebook messages I have received telling me to have a good first day of work...
And well as we all know when life gets busy as it does...it is the small things in life that mean the most...All of your messages have put a smile on my face..
So today remember the small things in life....because they could really make someones day!!

I will be working this week on posting my adventures in Malibu from over the weekend...and not to make any of you jealous or anything but I have TAN LINES...in Febuary..

Hello Again...its me coming to you all the way from Valencia CA
So...Saturday will be my 2nd week of trying to become "A Local"...let me tell you how that is working out for me
1.) got yelled at when I was at the local shell mart when i realized ..oh you cant just pump the gas and pay for it when you are done like I do at the local pioneer market..(ohhh the small things in life)
2.) When walking polly (our dog) on a beautiful morning in Feb. i got drenched...rain you say...oh no SPRINKLERS.....yes the sprinklers in our neighborhood came on in February and I was so caught off guard...that I was left standing there ....scratching my head...
3.) I have now driven on the freeways....and not just one but 3 of them in one day...go hard or go home I say.
the 5..405..and 101...
so if you all are asking yourself how i did...I am hear typing about it...so i am alive

I will be posting some pics of around town where we live soon..so stay tuned.

Also plans for this weekend..
TC and I have date night to the movies tomorrow...total chick flick..No strings attached (he is trying to fill the void from the bunco girls.)
And saturday we are headed to malibu for the day..going to hike....find a restaurant on the PCH and then head to the Getty museum...I am excited.

My last weekend before I start back to work.

I love you and miss you all!!

PS- this is to my niece syd boo...sorry i was not there to help you with valentine day cards for you class...i miss you and love you bones!
